Australia’s leading positive psychology course for educators delivered at St Peter’s College from August 2015
St Peter’s College is delighted to partner for the second year with the Positive Psychology Centre in the Melbourne Graduate School of Education at the University of Melbourne to offer the Adelaide delivery of the Professional Certificate in Education (Positive Education).
This is first postgraduate course of its kind in Australia, and is ideal for participants who are new to Positive Education or may have already undertaken some introductory professional development in the area.
Taught on site at the school in Adelaide from 14-15 August 2015, 11 September, 30 October-31 October and 20 November 2015. Each subject will be delivered intensively, including an initial 2-day session followed by a 1-day session.
During his Rex J Lipman Fellow Lecture, delivered at St Peter’s College on 28 May 2014, Professor Glyn Davis AC, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Melbourne said St Peter’s College and the Melbourne Graduate School of Education have taken a leading role in developing wellbeing and positive psychology in education in Australia.
“This collaboration has seen St Peter’s College successfully infuse wellbeing principles into the fabric of school life, as well to wider understanding through a number of publications,” he said.
Professor Lea Waters, Gerry Higgins Chair in Positive Psychology, Director, Centre for Positive Psychology at the Melbourne Graduate School of Education, University of Melbourne said their courses are taught by world-leading Academics at the Centre for Positive Psychology who have been researchers in the field for over a decade.
“Our staff not only teach positively psychology but also actively build the field through their research and are, thus, able to introduce students to the latest ideas and cutting edge research,” she said.
“Our emphasis on the science-practise nexus means that students will leave the course with a strong understanding of the scientific process. This knowledge equips our students with the on-going ability to evaluate and apply new positive psychology tools as they come to market.
“The emphasis on organizational change in subject two is invaluable in assisting our students to foster real change in schools.”
The Professional Certificate in Education (Positive Education) is a flagship award from the Centre for Positive Psychology at the University of Melbourne established with the generous support of John Higgins through the inaugural Gerry Higgins Chair, the Centre makes a significant contribution to the field of Positive Psychology through leading collaborative research, teaching and engagement and the development of world-class initiatives and programs, such as the Master of Applied Positive Psychology and the Professional Certificate in Positive Education.
