Five inspiring leaders welcomed to St Peter’s College for Public Lecture Series

St Peter’s College will welcome five outstanding and inspiring Fellows to the School this year for a series of public lectures as part of its Rex J. Lipman Fellows Program.

The Rex J. Lipman Fellows Program, now in its sixth year, has inspired over 10,000 members of the South Australian public since its commencement in 2011 and continues to bring some of the world’s leaders and commentators on contemporary issues including psychology, service, neuroscience and wellbeing to St Peter’s College.

St Peter’s College Headmaster, Simon Murray, said this year’s Program will commence with Australia’s most recognised child and adolescent psychologist, and returning Lipman Fellow, Dr Michael Carr-Gregg.

“I invite you to visit St Peter’s College on Wednesday 6 April at 7:00pm to hear Dr Michael Carr-Gregg’s public lecture about why we need digital disruption in young people’s mental health,” he said.

“At his lecture, you will find out how technology is helping young people manage their wellbeing, and how mental health professionals increasingly are turning to web-based programs smart phone apps and biometric devices to help treat and support young people with mental health problems.”

Four other Lipman Fellows will join Dr Michael Carr-Gregg for the 2016 Rex J Lipman Fellows Program, including:

  • Wednesday 4 May: Anthony Mackay AM, Chief Executive Officer, Centre for Strategic Education (CSE) Melbourne Chair, Global Education Leaders Partnership Chair, Innovation Unit Ltd, England
  • Wednesday 8 June: Jan Owen AM Hon Dlitt, CEO, Foundation for Young Australians
  • Wednesday 24 August: Professor Lea Waters, Gerry Higgins Chair in Positive Psychology Director, Centre for Positive Psychology Melbourne Graduate School of Education The University of Melbourne
  • Monday 26 September: Hunter Johnson, Partnership Manager Foundation for Young Australians

The Fellowship is named in honour of Old Scholar and benefactor Dr Rex J Lipman AO ED (SHT ’39, 1922-2015). Since 2011, thanks to Dr Lipman’s gift to the School, over 37 Lipman Fellows including some of the world’s leading thinkers have inspired and challenged our boys.

“Thanks to the generosity of the late Dr Lipman the Fellowship has attracted over 37 of the world’s leading thinkers to St Peter’s College since 2011 and has enriched our knowledge and understanding of a range of 21st-century issues,” Mr Murray said.

“From the outset in 2011, we have shared the Lipman Fellowship with the broader community – we want as many people as possible to learn from these thought leaders and internationally renowned experts.”
