Former School Captain returns to St Peter’s College as Deputy Headmaster

Ben Hanisch, who has held senior leadership roles at Melbourne Grammar School, has been appointed Deputy Headmaster and Head of Senior School at St Peter’s College.

The appointment is a homecoming for Mr Hanisch, an Old Scholar of St Peter’s College and its School Captain in 1986.

Mr Hanisch’s most recent role at Melbourne Grammar School was Director of Senior School Curriculum, which he held since 2014. Prior to the role he was Head of Japanese from 2001 to 2013, Head of Hone House from 2006 to 2013, and the First XVIII Coach from 2001 to 2009.

Mr Hanisch who was Commissioned on Wednesday, 27 July, as Deputy Headmaster and Head of Senor School, is excited to be returning to St Peter’s College to take up these roles.

“I loved my time as a student at Saints. It would not be an exaggeration to say that having the privilege to come to this school was a transformative experience for me because the teachers here allowed and encouraged me to think about possibilities for myself that I had never entertained beforehand,” he said.

“I believe in the holistic education of a person and so I am really looking forward to supporting the boys as they embrace the amazing breadth of offerings that we provide at Saints through both the academic curriculum and the co-curricular programs. Our boys will be able to push the boundaries of their understanding of who they are through engagement in their academic classes, as well as the exceptional music, art, sport and outdoor education programs that we offer.”

St Peter’s College Headmaster, Simon Murray, congratulated Mr Hanisch on his appointment.

“Ben has a vision and goals that align very well with St Peter’s College’s ambitions,” Mr Murray said.

“He believes that a truly good boys’ education is one that acknowledges the uniqueness of each individual and offers opportunities for everyone to better understand who they are.

“As an Old Scholar himself, having graduated from St Peter’s College in 1985, and returning in 1986 as School Captain, Mr Hanisch has since developed extensive leadership experience and expertise in academics, wellbeing, co-curricular and staff development.

“We welcome Ben back to St Peter’s College and very much look forward to his contribution.”
